How To Stop PDF's From Freezing Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is a cross-platform browser, providing support for various versions of Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Firefox's source code is freely available under the terms of the Mozilla tri-license as free and open source software.

Firefox has the ability to use the Acrobat Reader plugin and it is set by default. Whenever you click on a PDF link without realizing, it will freeze your browser for about a minute before it responds correctly. If the plugin crashes, it also crashes your browser. Here are the steps to take in order to solve this:

Note: This requires to have Adobe Reader already installed on your computer.
You can download this program from here.

1. Open Firefox and enter this url in the address bar:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/636/.
2. Click the green Install now button.

3. After the 4 seconds wait time click again the Install now button in the new window.

4. Firefox will install the new extension and when this is over you should click Restart Firefox.

5. Some settings are necessary so that Firefox won't freeze. With Firefox open, go to Tools -> Add-ons and find PDF Download in the list of add-ons that you have installed in Firefox.

6. Click Options, then on the General tab check the Open PDF box.

7. Now move to the PDF opening tab and check the Use OS default viewer box. Click OK.

8. Now every time you will click a link of a PDF document it will be opened with Adobe Reader. The Pdf Download extension has many options and you can customize it to your likes.
