How To Stop Annoying Sounds From Websites

The most annoying thing a website can do apart from displaying popups is autoplaying audio. Therefore, you can use some extensions to avoid those annoying sounds and not to turn off your speakers, which isn't a very pleasant option.

Note: This works only with the Firefox browser.

Stop Autoplay

Stop Autoplay can disable the autoplay of the embedded music and movie (mp3, wma, wmv, avi, mpg, rm...). To make use of this open Firefox, and install the extension from here. When the installation is complete restart Firefox.

The program has two blocking options:
a) Disable only the autostart of the embedded media. The users can press the play button of the controller to play it.
b) Block the media when loading a page. It will be replaced by a red frame. Press the red frame to load and then play it.

In order to modify between the two options above and others that come with the program, with Firefox opened, go to Tools -> Add-ons. In the new window find Stop Autoplay and click Options.

Flashblock

While Stop Autoplay takes care of the music from webpages, Flashblock is useful in blocking flash animations. But if you want to see it, just click on it. You can install Flashblock from here.

Both extensions have the ability to make whitelists with sites on which you don't want the sound and flash animations to be blocked.
