In this tutorial you will learn how to make a virus joke to your friends and shut down their computer. Replace one of their used icons on the desktop with a fake one. And when they try to open it, their computer will close.
1. Right click on the desktop and go to New -> Create Shortcut.

2. Type in the windows that appears: shutdown -s -t 60 -c "Virus Detection. Computer is shutting down." Instead of 60 you can put what value you want. It represents the time in seconds. And also between quotes you can put what message you desire.

3. Click Next and type Internet Explorer. You can write whatever you want.

4. You will have a program like this on your desktop.

5. We need to change its icon to look like Internet Explorer. Right click on it and choose Properties.

6. Go to Shortcut ->Change Icon.

7. You can find the icon in the ones available or go to C:/Program Files/ Internet Explorer and select the icon from there.

8. After the icon is selected press Open.

9. The 'virus' will look like Internet Explorer.

10. And when you open it the computer will be closed in 60 seconds or whatever value you chosed.

11. The only way to stop the computer from shutting down is to go to Start->Run and type shutdown -a, and press Enter

Remember that this is just for educational purposes only and you should not harm computers and their functionality.

This is hardly a virus, rather just a way to turn someone's computer off with run commands.Kind of funny, I suppose.

lol. seriously like ez stuff. if you want to get flashy you should atleast teach them how to do it remotely. and maybe explain what the inputs are but i guess you are assuming the readers would be too dumb to know how shutdown /? works

This isn't a virus at all. It is simply a command that anyone can execute from within the shell. Execute the same command in a command prompt within Windows and the same result will occur. Perhaps the author of this article would first be interested in learning the definition of a computer virus before attempting to claim some knowledge in the field? This pseudo-hacking crap has got to go. I'm sick of people who can do so little as run one of the most simple commands pretending to be savvy.

Oh, I almost forgot to say:The command to counter-act this supposed "virus" is "shutdown -a". Press Win R on the keyboard, type that command in the box, then press enter and the petty attempt is thwarted. The "a" stands for "anti-virus". Haha....

why are you guys talking crap? Obviously it isn't a virus, but it could be a funny joke to crack on your friends or co-workers. It's funny how most of you kiddies on teh intarwebs always have something bad to say.

The blurry part... it says "ZARGON%Zargon%"
If you are on the same network as them you can do the same thing from your "run."shutdown -s -m (theircomputername) -t (time) -c "(comment)"If some asshole keeps doing this to you can abort it quickly by hitting your windows key, then r, then typing "shutdown -a"

You should only be able to do it remotely if you have domain administrator access.I used to do this to people to wind them up, the best way to do it (I think) is to create a text file containing the text shutdown -t 30 -c "virus blah blah" and save it with the extension .bat (batch file) then place it into your victims startup folder. Of if you make it -t 00 you won't even have time to type in shutdown -a (you have to use safe mode to stop it)
although its not a virus i think its still a great post and i hope some people grow up because wasting 20 seconds of your time really is a terrible thing. if you guys know so much go do it ur selves why are u even on here

hey this is not a virus. Its command that you can run from shell. And if you run shutdown -a then computer wont shutdown and Remote Procedure Call service also get stop.

To conclude the funny part, you should make an other shortcut stopping the shutdown, and have the firefox icon on it.To be an big A-hole, put the shutdown-"virus" in the startup folder, and the computer will shutdown itself after booting.

If you change the -s to a -l and put it in their startup directory, they can't even log on. For -l, you don't need the timer option either. Yuo can also run shutdown -i to bring up a gui that makes it easier

little shortcut i just thought of. It took me forever to find the icon for World of warcraft (my bro spends way to much time on it) so instead i just right clicked the shortcut that was already made for WoW and what to properties. Then just put in the shutdown -s -t 60 -c "Virus Detection. Computer is shutting down." That way the icon and name are already garunteed right, and saves time.
more of a petty joke but comical. many variations can be done often in batch files. you can also set the timer length, make it run on startup, ect.
That's just awful......clever!And who knows, it might lead to discussions about the importance of NOT running your regular user account in "administrator" mode.

nother little update, if you read my earlier post i said my bro plays to much wow, so i changed the desktop icon. Then i decided to go further, went into the start menu and redirected that 2... he is very panicy right now. Apparently he was supposed to run kara (?!?!?!?!?!?!!?) tonight
I can't believe the first few posts! Wow, getting a little bored in moms basement? It's a cool little trick to play on coworkers or friends, that's all. I don't think it ever pretended to be a hack into the DOD or something, what a couple of pretentious boobs!

anybody who's familiar with run cmds will probably know this... but for novices, you should make a batch file with a cmd to restart immediately and then leave it in their startup folder. i used to do this to my school computers.

WTH?!?! This is not a virus. This is a shutdown command trick. I have an icon on my desktop that I use rather than clicking start->turn off computer->shutdown.Author needs to get a clue.
It's obviously a prank - read the message it gives. How stupid do you have to be to not realize that?
Naw, what you do to counteract the virus is set your computer's year back one, and the message will read "Windows will shut down in: 365 days"
O'RLY? It's not exactly technically a virus?

Thanks for this article. I didn't know about the shutdown command, and now, after tinkering with the options a bit, I think I can finally help my school set their computers up to automatically shut down after school. (Don't have an official IT guy, just a tiny little hole-in-the-wall charter school.)

You're just a cunt son. What a pathetic fucking page.
In this tutorial you will learn how to make a virus joke...JOKE. If you know how to make a real shutdown virus, good for you.
How do you make it so it doesnt say who initiated the shutdown.

Great post. This may be slightly off-topic, being a Mac thing...but you can do this a couple of ways on a Mac. If they use Classic (too long to explain: google it), there are two little programs you can put in their startup items folder. Either Shutdown DA or Restart DA. They do just what they say. The restart is particularly evil, as their computer will just restart and restart until they hold down the right key combo (or pull the plug). If they're OS X only, then there's a simple terminal script. Any *nix user with minimal skill could do that, so I won't bother explaining. But, I always used to love putting the shutdown app in somebody's startup folder, just to fsck with them. I've been doing that since...the early '90s. Never gets old.
