YouTube is a popular free video sharing website which lets users upload, view, and share video clips. Videos can be rated, the average rating and the number of times a video has been watched are both published.
If you are using Firefox as your default browser you can accomplish this by installing an extension. UnPlug is an extension which lets you save video and audio which is embedded on a webpage. Install the extension and when you are on a page with a movie that you want to save just go to Tools -> UnPlug and download the movie.
In case you are not a Firefox user and want to have a movie from YouTube on your computer follow the steps and you will accomplish just that:
1. Download the free tool iTube and install it.
2. Open iTube and select File -> Options.
3. Under the Save Movies To: field enter the path where you want to save the movie. You have the option to convert the file either to use it with your iPod or to MPEG for everyday use on your computer. So select which option suites you better. If you want to put the movie on your iPod make sure the option Import Converted Files Into iTunes is checked.
Note: If you do not have iTunes installed make sure this options isn't checked because the program will prompt you with an error. Still the download will be finished successfully.
When you have finished, click OK.
4. Now enter the YouTube URL of the movie in the Page URL field.
5. Click Go!.
6. The program will initialize.
And start the download of the flv movie on your hard drive.
7. When the download is over it will convert the movie according to what you had selected at the third step.
Note: To be able to download movies from other sites like Google Video or Metacafe you need additional handlers. A list of handlers can be found here. Download the handler you want, install it and now you can enter in URLs from the new site, iTube taking care of the rest. You can see what handlers are already installed by selecting File -> Supported Sites.

I found a website that does the same thing, and I don't have to install anything. There site also uses an anonymous proxy, so I can access youtube from work. My work blocks youtube!Youtube.thezerogroup.comhttp://www.youtube.thezerogroup.com

you can go to the temporary intenet files and copy paste the movie from there to the desktop then play it from the vlc media player but be care ful not to delete the temprary internet files after you see the movie .........
Or you could just go to www.videocodezone.com/conversion.php. Specify the URL and output type(my favorite is MP4 for IPOD of course) and it spits out that file. Pretty cool. Only thing is they support YouTube and DailyMotion only at this point so hopefully they will have more video sites in future.

I always use SaveAllVids: http://www.saveallvids.com to save Youtube videos.Because the site is focussed on either viewing videos AND downloading them instantly, i think its the best site if you need to download a Youtube clip :)
